Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

Yes. An ice maker fault does not affect refrigerator or freezer compartment cooling. Food safety is not at risk. Continue using the appliance normally while arranging repair of the ice maker.

Can I reset the code?

Yes. Power-cycling can sometimes reset the ice maker module and restart the harvest cycle. Also try pressing and holding the ice maker test button (if present on your model) for 3 seconds to initiate a test harvest cycle.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: ICE code appears alongside a freezer temperature fault (F2), Water is leaking from the ice maker area onto the floor.

Symptoms You May Notice

ICE code on display

The control panel shows ICE; some models flash this code alongside the ice maker status indicator.

No ice production

The ice maker bin is empty and no new ice cubes have been produced for 24 or more hours.

Ice maker arm stuck in off position

The feeler arm or optical sensor that detects a full bin may be stuck or blocked, telling the ice maker to stop production.

Possible Causes

1

Ice maker turned off or harvest arm raised

The ice maker has been manually switched off, or the full-bin feeler arm is stuck in the raised (off) position.

DIY Possible
2

Water supply issue

Water inlet valve is closed, kinked supply line, or low water pressure (minimum 20 psi required) prevents water from filling the ice maker mold.

DIY Possible
3

Clogged water filter

An overdue water filter is restricting flow to the ice maker below the minimum required for a full fill.

DIY Possible
4

Ice maker module failure

The ice maker control module, heater, or thermostat has failed internally, halting the harvest cycle.

5

Freezer temperature too warm

Freezer temperature above 10°F (-12°C) prevents water from freezing in the mold within the harvest cycle window.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

Verify ice maker is turned on

Check the ice maker on/off switch or control panel setting. Ensure the feeler arm (if present) is in the down position, which enables production.

On some Fisher & Paykel models the ice maker is disabled via the display panel rather than a physical switch.

  2. 2

    Check water supply and pressure

Confirm the water shut-off valve behind the refrigerator is fully open and the supply line is not kinked. If possible, test flow by disconnecting the line into a bucket momentarily.

Water pressure below 20 psi will prevent the fill valve from opening fully.

  3. 3

    Replace water filter if overdue

Fisher & Paykel recommends replacing the water filter every 6 months or 300 gallons. Locate the filter (usually inside the fresh food section or in the base grille) and replace if it is overdue.

After replacing the filter, run 2–3 gallons of water through the dispenser to flush the new filter before resuming ice production.

  4. 4

    Check freezer temperature

Verify the freezer is at or below 0°F (-18°C) using a separate thermometer. If the freezer is too warm, resolve the underlying cooling issue before troubleshooting the ice maker.

A warm freezer will cause the ICE code even when the ice maker hardware is fully functional.
