Fisher & Paykel Washing Machine Lid Lock — Recalls safety notice from the Fisher & Paykel repair guide.

Hazard

The lid lock mechanism on certain Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive top-load washers can fail to engage properly, allowing the lid to open during the spin cycle. Contact with the spinning drum poses a serious laceration hazard.

Affected Models

WL37T26CW1, WL37T26DW1, and GW712 SmartDrive series washers manufactured between August 2007 and April 2010. The model and serial number label is located inside the door rim.

Units Affected

Approximately 55,000 units sold in the United States and Canada through appliance and department stores.

What to Do

  1. Stop using the washer if the lid can be opened while the drum is spinning.
  2. Contact Fisher & Paykel to arrange a free replacement of the lid lock assembly.
  3. Do not bypass or tape the lid lock as a temporary measure.
  4. Keep children away from the appliance during operation until the repair is complete.
