Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive Washer Leveling & — Safety Notices safety notice from the Fisher & Paykel repair guide.
Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive top-load washers use an electronically controlled variable-speed motor that adapts to load imbalances. However, an unlevel installation can overwhelm this system, causing excessive vibration, drum contact with the cabinet, and potential movement of the appliance during the spin cycle — a risk to nearby people and surrounding cabinetry.
Why It Matters
An improperly leveled washer that “walks” across the floor can disconnect water hoses, strain drain connections, and tip in an unrestrained laundry space. Vibration that is transmitted to walls or floors can also loosen plumbing fittings over time. Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive models are designed with an automatic load-balance feature, but this works correctly only when the machine is level.
What to Check
- Place a spirit level on the top panel of the washer in both front-to-back and side-to-side orientations.
- Adjust the four leveling feet until all four contact the floor evenly and the bubble is centered.
- Lock each leveling foot nut against the base cabinet to prevent feet from turning during use.
- Ensure the washer does not rock when pushed diagonally at the corners.
- Distribute laundry loads evenly in the drum; avoid washing a single heavy item alone.
When to Call a Pro
If vibration persists after leveling, the drum bearings or shock absorbers may be worn. Contact Fisher & Paykel service for a mechanical inspection.
