Fisher & Paykel Refrigerator Water Filter Replacement — Safety Notices safety notice from the Fisher & Paykel repair guide.
Fisher & Paykel ActiveSmart refrigerators with internal water dispensers and ice makers use a replaceable inline water filter to reduce chlorine, sediment, and certain contaminants from the dispensed water. Failing to replace the filter on schedule can compromise water quality and restrict flow to the ice maker, stressing the water inlet valve.
Why It Matters
Over time, a water filter becomes saturated with the contaminants it has captured. An expired filter no longer reduces chlorine or particulates effectively and may begin to release trapped bacteria back into the water supply. A clogged filter also restricts water flow, causing the ice maker to produce smaller, cloudy ice cubes or fail to produce ice at all. Low flow can shorten the life of the water inlet valve solenoid.
What to Check
- Replace the water filter every six months or after 300 gallons of dispensed water, whichever comes first — follow the indicator light on your model if equipped.
- Use only Fisher & Paykel genuine replacement filters or NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 certified equivalents that match your model.
- After installation, flush the new filter by dispensing approximately 1.5 liters (50 oz) of water before drinking or using the ice.
- Check the filter housing O-ring for damage each time you replace the filter — a damaged O-ring can cause a slow drip inside the refrigerator.
- Note the replacement date on the filter housing or in your household maintenance log.
When to Call a Pro
If dispensed water flow remains poor after a new filter installation, the water inlet valve or filter manifold may require service. Contact Fisher & Paykel at 1-888-936-7872.
