Fisher & Paykel Induction Cooktop Pacemaker & Medical Device Safety

Fisher & Paykel Induction Cooktop Pacemaker & — Safety Notices safety notice from the Fisher & Paykel repair guide.

Fisher & Paykel CI series induction cooktops generate electromagnetic fields (EMF) during operation. These fields can interfere with implantable cardiac pacemakers, defibrillators (ICDs), and other active medical implants. People with such devices should be aware of the recommended precautions before using induction cooking appliances.

Why It Matters

The electromagnetic field produced by an induction cooktop is strongest directly above the active cooking zone and diminishes rapidly with distance. Interference is most likely when a person leans over an active zone or carries an implant on the side closest to the cooktop. Fisher & Paykel follows IEC 60335-2-6 safety standards, but individual pacemaker sensitivity varies by device manufacturer and model.

What to Check

  • Consult your cardiologist or device manufacturer before using an induction cooktop if you have a pacemaker or ICD.
  • Maintain a minimum distance of 60 cm (24 inches) between the implant and an active cooking zone where possible.
  • Do not lean directly over an active burner zone for extended periods.
  • Use the rear cooking zones instead of front zones to increase your working distance from the EMF source.
  • Disable zones that are not in use to reduce overall field exposure.

When to Call a Pro

If you experience dizziness, palpitations, or your pacemaker alarm activates while near the cooktop, move away immediately and consult your physician. For cooktop service, contact Fisher & Paykel at 1-888-936-7872.
