Fisher & Paykel Heat Pump Dryer Condensate — Safety Notices safety notice from the Fisher & Paykel repair guide.
Fisher & Paykel DH series heat pump dryers condense moisture from laundry into a removable water collection tank rather than venting it outside. The tank must be emptied regularly to prevent overflow, which can cause water to contact the dryer's electrical components or spill onto the floor creating a slip hazard.
Why It Matters
Unlike vented dryers, heat pump dryers recirculate air through a heat exchanger, making them highly energy-efficient but dependent on the condensate tank or a connected drain hose to manage collected water. Most DH series models hold approximately 4 liters in the tank. If the tank fills before the cycle completes, the dryer will pause and display a Tank Full indicator. Ignoring this alert and overriding the pause can cause an overflow condition.
What to Check
- Empty the condensate tank after every drying cycle, or connect a permanent drain hose if your installation allows it.
- Clean the tank with warm water and a small amount of white vinegar monthly to prevent mineral scale and microbial growth.
- Inspect the tank seat and seal for debris that could cause misalignment and dripping inside the cabinet.
- Clean the heat pump filter and lint filter per the schedule in your owner's manual — typically every five cycles for the lint filter and every two months for the heat pump filter.
- Check the floor around the dryer after each cycle for any residual moisture that indicates a tank seal or drain hose issue.
